Ornithogalum is in the Liliaceae family and is native to Europe, Asia, and South Africa.
The short variety balansae is available from December to the end of March.
Ornithogalum balansae has several white, star-shaped flowers. The flowers start creeping while blossoming.
Ornithogalum balansae grows to about 20 cm high.
Ornithogalum lasts longest when you put it in a light, cool spot, and does best outdoors. It can survive a light frost without any problems.
You can keep Ornithogalum in its pot or you can plant several of them together in a large pot or in the garden. Ornithogalum can be combined with other bulbous plants to striking effect, such as red tulips in December or Muscari or Fritillaria in the spring.
Ornithogalum is perennial.
