The iris is in the Iridaceae family and is native to Asia Minor and the Caucasus.

Iris reticulata 'Harmony' and 'Alida' are dark and light purple.. Iris 'Katharine Hodgkin' is a very pale blue. These varieties grow to about 20 cm high and are available from January to the end of April. Iris bucharica is a yellowish white. This iris blossoms from the leaf axil and has four to five blossoms per plant. It has a delightful scent. This plant grows to about 30 cm high and is available from February to April.
Your iris will last longest when you put it in a light, cool spot, and it does best outdoors. It can survive a light frost without any problems. You can keep your iris in its pot or you can plant several of them together in a large pot or in the garden. It can be beautifully combined with other bulbous plants, such as Muscari or Fritillaria.
This plant is only perennial if the summer soil temperature has been high.
